the client for the Job was St Surley AKA Ron who I had collaborated with previously on some illustration work.
St Surley and the music label were looking for distinctive and creative illustration work that captured the ethereal and atmospheric hip hop influenced tracks from St Surley’s new album. As in the past, I was given artistic freedom to interpret the work – which I am always grateful for.
You can buy the album here if you are interested.
Bouchon Wines & Spirits is proudly Queensland-owned and operated. They are Queensland’s premier wine and spirits wholesaling company offering an exceptional range of Australian, New Zealand, Italian and French wines as well as exquisite spirits, liqueurs, syrups and cordials, beers and ciders and other products.
Design and illustrate work for boutique Brisbane Wine distributer Bouchon Wines.
Bouchon frequently release wine for supply in Brisbane’s prestige local bars, cafe’s and restaurants. They contacted us as they were looking for a distinctively handcrafted & painted wine label design for a new release.
The wine was a Quintessential Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and a Cabernet Merlot, clean crisp and refreshing, made by Ed Tomlinson. The following text was provided as inspiration.
As the door opened, I noticed two things straight up; The Empty Bottle and the tall smoking blonde, but not necessarily in that order…
In order to reinforce the boutique nature of the brand we applied a distinctive and handrawn approach to the graphic design process. In short we had fun painting and drawing! A few of the iterations of the illustration work have been included to give an example of the process.
The final label takes on a noirish crime paperback using a unique hand drawn typeface with a subtle handpainted and distressed feel. We printed the product incorporating a deckled edge to give it a home made and limited edition feel but polished it up by adding a beautiful, thick varnish to the distressed logo.
Fran Moser is a local Brisbane Author (we worked together at a design studio). Fran is a creative and fun loving spirit with a beautiful daughter (and fun loving puppy) who are the inspiration behind her new venture into children’s book publishing.
Create character references and full page story book illustration for 2 children’s story books based on the adventures of Lily and Tily.
This book is part of the series The Adventures of Lily and Tily which is based on the real life adventures of my daughter Lily and our little dog Tily, who has a heart shape patch.
The books hope to inspire young children to go on adventures (just like Lily and Tily like to do) and are set outside in nature where they are the most happiest.
The themes that naturally come through the stories are; the value of the outdoors and nature to inspire and nurture children’s imagination and creativity. The importance of a healthy sense of adventure, the unconditional love and friendship received from animals, the significance of family time and connection and the overwhelming need for children to learn and socialise through outside play.
This was one of the largest illustration projects I have had the pleasure of working on – and also one of the funnest. Being a dad of 3 myself I am totally immersed in the world of children’s books at the moment, and Fran’s stories are lovely.
So will the scope and size of the project were a challenge, embracing the story and drawing to my hearts content wasn’t.
Thanks James, this is so exciting!
I love every aspect of it.” – Fran
Andrea Kirwin is a Singer-Songwriter based on the Sunshine Coast near Brisbane. Her music can best be described as an earthy blend of hiphop, funk and soul with an Island style roll. An original member of the Andi and George band, Andrea has spent the last decade performing all around Australia and released her debut solo Album, ‘From the Ground Up’ in 2012. Her lyrics are heartfelt and full of positive messages delivered at times in a Gospel style that harkens back to Andrea’s days growing up singing in lotu (family church) with her Fijian mum and siblings.
Her voice is simply, and apparently effortlessly, beautiful. It is rich and soulful, and a world away from the cutesy or breathy vocals that are currently fashionable for ‘alternative’ female vocalists.” – AMY DOWLER
Andrea came to us looking for creative cd packaging that would match her music – “an earthy blend of hiphop, funk and soul”. It was important that the album art made the best use of her natural personality and laid back attitude. Andrea was specifically after illustration to make the design work. We were also asked to create a logo design for her record label
Thanks for the awesome job you did on the CD cover. Lots of people have complimented on how you captured the vibe perfectly : )
Taken by are a local Brisbane band looking to release there first EP.
The guys wanted a detailed concept art style illustration that conveyed the ideas of loss and betrayal and emphasised the title “Falling”
This was a fantastic job to work on and I loved every minute. We worked together to developed almost a series of comic style images that hopefully tell a story. The idea wasn’t to spell out every step of the dram but present the ideas behind the music in a visually compelling way.
Our process is collaborative. We will help you through each step.
Metagraphics is located in Brisbane, but we love to travel to new and exciting destinations.
