CASE STUDY
In 2004 Chik mag from Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast commissioned me to do an editorial illustration piece for an article on drink driving. I provided 3 concepts or roughs to the editor which were then refined to a more polished final piece which was produced to site beside the article.
As well as producing editorial peices for magazines I have created illustrations for non fiction book covers and children’s stories. Illustrating for print and the publishing industry is great. The balance to tread with any editorial illustration is how much of your own opinion you can add to the mix.
Approaching an editorial illustration is best done by understanding and being involved in the project as much as possible. Immersion in the subject matter allows the mind to reach for visual interpretations of the subject that allow for a great editorial illustration.
