Creative Direction
Metagraphics is the Brisbane illustration and graphic design portfolio of James Alley. James holds a Bachelor of design from the Queensland College of Art and a Diploma of Design from the Queensland Advertising Academy.
James is an Art Director, Senior Designer and Illustrator and has over 10 years industry experience. James has facilitated arts workshops for young people, presented for events and has been published in various design and art journals and online websites. James also exhibits personal artwork regularly.
Art Direction
While designing for Billabong James developed advertising campaigns, illustrated custom made shirts, posters, business flyers, CD and DVD packaging and provided creative direction for the seasonal branding within the Billabong marketing department in Australia.
After working for Billabong James travelled briefly while working in London as a freelance designer. During this period he balanced his time traveling through Europe, studying oil painting at St Martins College, exhibiting and consuming art while designing for advertising agencies, design studios and clothing brands.
Ethos
James strongly values art, relationships and community. After returning to Australia he worked as a Senior Designer and logo maker in general at Human Venture where he was able to see outwork his values in tangible projects including design and arts workshop facilitation.
Since working for Human for two years James now directs Metagraphics as a freelance designer and illustrator from his home in Brisbane. When he isn’t in the studio working on design or illustration projects he is in the studio drawing and painting. Sometimes he ventures outside to look at the sky with his beautiful family.
